Thornton weekly report week ending 22nd May
Tel: 01530 230807
A much better week for us at Thornton, although the weather forecast wasn’t great at times the fishing was good returning a rod average of 4.0 for the week
Large hatches of buzzer, overcast conditions resulted in the fish feeding on or near the surface most of the week with a floating line, midge tip or intermediate all that was required with buzzer, cruncher, diawl bach, hares ears, muddlers & dries
Typically for us at this time of year boats are out fishing the bank with the main basin, stones and Markfield Arm producing best with anglers staying on to fish the last hour enjoying terrific evening sport.
Monday Clive Holt fished the evening rise and caught 6, on Tuesday Steve Windram & Phil Cross shared a boat catching 15 on damsel, Wednesday T Pegg found fish moving all day along the stones catching 19 on a black diawl bach, Thursday Keith Cowen caught his limit on damsels with Clive Holt returning to fish the evening rise being rewarded with 6 trout.
By Friday and the weekend although windy on Saturday the algae had cleared and the fishing was superb with Danny Lovegrove And Rob Middleton fishing small buzzers and small daddies to record 25 fish for their boat, Jamie Scott came to fish the evening rise with dries boating 8 trout, on Saturday Martin Clay and Colin Meads shared a boat for the morning session catching 20 trout on size 14 grey buzzer, Mark Hunt fished top of the water to record 24 trout on Sunday Andy Hubbard called in for the morning session recording 5 trout.
However top angler of the week was the Osprey who visited us on Tuesday taking a trout for his supper from amongst the boats fishing the main basin.
