Thornton 2023 Season Opens 1st February
With the 2023 fly fishing season opening at Thornton on 1st February we are busy preparing for the new season
Our preseason stocking of 2350 rainbows of which 550 are 2lb+ with 1800 averaging 1lb10oz have gone in with our boats also due back on the water. Our 2023 stocking policy is on our website https://www.
Water clarity is good with our water temperature at 5c, which is were you would expect it to be for the time of year.
If your planning to fish the bank you will need waders with the lodge & main gate open from 7.30am
Boats are due out from 8.30am but will be out sooner if the staff get the pontoon ready quicker than expected.
Previous years the shallows opposite the lodge along the Thornton Arm, wood bank & corner of the wood fishes best with lines from intermediate down to fast sinkers with green pea, tadpole, cats whisker, blobs & booby patterns although some fish are always taken on buzzer, diawls & bloodworm patterns.
To book call the lodge 01530230807 we will be asking for prepayment of your boat booking with prepayment due a week before your visit. If for any reason your visit is cancelled you will receive a full refund.
Prepayment will save you queuing at the lodge & will eliminate no shows which cost the fishery money
