Thornton Weekly update week ending 26th May
122 rods caught 348 trout for rod average 2.8
With the wind & rain we had last Thursday / Friday the surface water temperature dropped to 10 degrees this morning as I write this report it has climbed back to 11 degrees.
Those temperatures are OK for trout fishing but the fishing will be more like early April than late May and so it is with bank anglers still catching fish especially down along the farm bank with season permit holder Pete Cox catching 11 trout from the bank for his visit.
The trout have dropped back in the water with the majority been taken between 5ft & 10ft down, indicators with buzzers have worked well as has a sinking line with damsels and diawl bach.
Best area still the wood bank, farm bank, Thornton arm and green bay.
On the warmer days last week we have started to see the first of the hawthorn fly on the water.
Our water clarity is excellent.
