Thornton Weekly update week ending 18th August

Fishing at Thornton continues to improve with cooler water temperatures & the more seasonal air temperatures been favourable for trout fishing our water clarity is good as are the reservoir water levels.

With the water temperature closer to 16 degrees the trout have moved up in the water with any periods of cloud seeing plenty of trout feeding off the surface to good hatches of buzzer (claret buzzer) and sedges.

Anglers who have fished the late evening and been prepared to stay out until its dark and time for the boats to come in. That last 20 minutes been rewarded with a good evening rise especially in front of the boat pontoon.

Floating line or midge tip with buzzers, damsel, dries and a muddler have worked best with the area in front of the lodge, main dam and green bay fishing best.

Clive Holt fished the late evening rise on Monday and Tuesday evening taking 5 trout each evening up to 4lb8oz, A Crone fished a morning session with diawl bach catching 7 trout to 3lb, B White also fished a morning session catching 6 trout, Chris Sayer fished a muddler to catch his 5 trout to 4lb8oz during Friday morning session, while Mr Rankine fished a red eyed damsel to record a 12 trout for his visit, a diawl bach and hares ear took 8 trout including a brown and two trout over 3lb for Mark Hunt morning session.

Frank Parker won the local angling club Kirby Fly Fishers competition, Frank took 6 trout including a brown trout of 3lb5oz
