Thornton weekly report week ending 12th June
Tel: 01530 230807
Although it was great to feel the sun on your back last week the bright conditions and high temperatures quickly pushed the surface water temperature up and by Thursday we registered a surface water temperature of 21 degrees, not surprising therefore the trout moved off the surface with anglers using intermediate & mid range sinkers catching best.
Good numbers of damsel hatching not surprising therefore damsel patterns featured heavily in the catches as did the snake pattern. Anglers fishing straight line buzzers or buzzers under an indicator also caught with size 14 buzzers best. The deeper cooler water of the main basin produced best.
With pin fry in the water we will expect to see an increasing number of trout turning their attention onto these, small hares ear, silver invicta, silver thorax pheasant tail and small sparkle booby will often work on trout feeding on the pin fry, with the cooler conditions these pin fry feeders will be located in front of the wood and along the stones.
Today as I write the report 13th June our surface temperature has dropped to a far better 18.5 degrees, water clarity is excellent, with fish moving on the surface again this morning.
The forecast for this week, showers and lower temperatures will be ideal for the midland reservoirs.
Rod average 1.6
