Thornton weekly report week ending 3rd July 2016
Tel: 01530 230807
With the water clarity improving and our water temperature at 17.5 degrees our fishing improved from the week before although it’s fair to say, no two days fished the same. Our rod average for the week was 1.8
Generally mornings are producing best with the deeper water in front of the main car park, green bay, orange buoy & stones fishing best with most of the fish in the top 6ft of water. Not surprising therefore an intermediate line or Sink rate 3 sinking line has produced best with blue flash damsel, snakes, orange blob & hares ear.
92 year John Everett caught 6 for his mornings visit on an orange blob picture on our facebook page www.facebook.com/FlyFishStore Chris Gaughan took a mornings trip in his float tube catching 4 but reporting plenty of pulls and follows to a damsel and cats whisker, Mark Hunt opted for an evening session boating 5 trout mainly pin fry feeders which he caught on a minkie and FAB, while Betty Miles followed the advice at the lodge and fished the blue flash damsel to record 8 trout.
Hatches: Caenis, huge numbers of damsel, huge numbers pin fry, sedges
Mornings are best with little or no rise in the evenings.
Water temp 17.5 degrees, clarity improving.
At times like this at the height of the summer when fishing conditions can & do alter quickly we recommend you contact the lodge for latest info.
