Thornton weekly report week ending 15th August 2016

70 acres

Tel: 01530 230807

Surface water temperatures in the main hovered at 18.5c last week, considering it August that’s cool for  us, combined with overcast conditions, stiff breeze & cool nights we enjoyed a far better weeks fishing with our rod average at 1.8

Surprising for August the Thornton arm produced best with good numbers of fish to be seen moving through the surface, most anglers found a floating line with small diawls & hares ears fished static was the best combination, although the washing line with a orange or black booby on the point also worked as did the dries with the big red, daddy & size 14 G&H sedge taking fish.

A few of the big claret buzzer showed this week, they are around 2 weeks early, as they show in increasing numbers the good old traditional wet fly “Mallard & Claret” does well.

Water clarity is good with just a hint of algae.

Chris Sayer fished a morning session with his granddaughter Millie, between them they caught 7 trout, Bob Jones fished a diawl bach to catch 12 trout, Mark Hunt fished dries to record his 10 fish. Szymon fished with his 9 yr old son Jakub catching 5 trout see our face book page www.facebook.com/FlyFishStore Szymon returned next morning in his float tube to catch 15 trout, Matt Vickers & R Cattemull shared a boat and caught 11 trout for their mornings fishing

Generally the morning session continues to fish best.

At times like this at the height of the summer when fishing conditions can & do alter quickly we recommend you contact the lodge for latest info.
